CHAPTER 26: Saansein thaame chal…
THE LEELA PALACE, DELHI – 09:10 P.M.
The hotel’s back garden which is main venue for the event has been transformed into something magical with strings and balls of fairy-lights hanging from or wrapped on the trees and with the soft jazz music playing in the background matched the ambience perfectly. There is make-shift black-white checker-dance-floor in the center with sitting arrangements surround it in café style with tables decorated with white tablecloth, artful centerpieces, candles and expensive cutleries. There were small open gazebos with vines wrapping around pillars adding another level of elegance to all the decorations. Guests were mingling around with either a glass of drink in hand or entrée that was being served by the waiting staff, making sure none of the guests were empty-handed as the whole place is buzzing with conversations, laughter and activity.
Reception Venue |
The was a separate huge white tent set-up done which is a little further away from the main reception party area for the purpose of the press conference where the models from the show and still in outfits were giving interviews or posing for the paparazzi. It was buzzing with conversations and the bright flashes of cameras were non-stop though it was winding down as the models were leaving to change while the reporters were starting to settle down as it was nearly time. The setting was done with a stage that held a long table covered by white satin tablecloth and microphones placed already while rows upon rows of chairs in front of the stage for the reports were. With the sound of a mic being tapped made everyone turn their attention towards the stage where Aman Mathur stood holding it, said: “Good evening ladies and gentlemen, I hope you all enjoyed today’s AR fashion show. Dear journalists please settle down, the press conference is about to start in five minutes. Also, I am sure the models probably want to change their outfits from evening’s event because gorgeous they might be but those are heavy like you won’t believe.” with a pleasant smile.
That was the que for everyone to get moving as the models wrapped up their interviews and photoshoot sessions to get changed while the reporters took their respective seats with eager anticipation. Few moments later, Ryan came on-stage along with Rishi and took their places to which Aman directed them to at one end of the long table as the three casually conversed among themselves in low voice. They straightened up when Anjali along with Manohar approached and Aman quickly made them sit at their places smiling lightly before going back to his conversation which was joined by the elder Raizada also now while Mrs. Raizada-Jha simply looked around curiously. Moments later increasing the buzz of anticipation came Akash now wearing a nude-peachy-pink bandi featuring an exquisite floral thread-work with an ivory kurta teamed up with nude-peach churidar-pyjama holding the hand of his bride. Payal is dressed now in a nude-pink velvet bridal lehenga with beautiful silver-thread embroidery design and embroidered matching net dupattas while her long hair is tied in sophisticated bun, silver high-heels. Her shimmering makeup enhanced the wheat-gold of her complexion and matching heavy diamond jewellery were glittering under the light were very eye-catching while a shy-timid smile on her lips.
Payal and Akash's Reception Outfits and Look |
Akash led Payal on stage and helped her sit before settling down to sit beside her, taking his seat happily and they both greeted others on the table with pleasantly which was reciprocated similarly. Just than man of the evening wearing royal-blue designer sherwani with big blue button detail as a red silk hanky is peeking out of his breast-pocket paired with black dhoti-pyjamas and black velvet mojari makes an entry. As soon as ASR enters all eyes and attention automatically turns towards him and seeing him alone without his bride beside him sends everyone talk in hush tones making various speculations. But ASR paid no mind to anything as he made his way on stage and sits down in his place though the left chair beside him is empty which is clearly meant for Mrs. ASR who is at the moment nowhere to be seen.
Arnav's Look and Outfit |
Arnav silently gestures Aman to start the conference who was waiting for it, picks up the mic and speaks: “Good evening ladies and gentlemen, a warm welcome to the launch of AR Designs Bridal collection and I hope you all enjoyed the fashion show that displayed our new collection designed by ASR. We are starting the press conference now and let me give the formal introductions even though I am sure you know present members but still. Beginning from far left of the table is Mr. Rishi Mukherjee, corporate advocate and legal advisor of RC Industries.” to which Rishi nods lightly with a small smile when his introduction is given as it moved on to next person, “Beside him is Mr. Ryan Raichoudhary, corporate advocate, owner of KR Law Firm and board of director of RC Industries.” and Ryan waves pleasantly. There was a vacant chair in between which was skipped at being addressed and the next person given introduction, “Next I am sure you all know is Arnav Singh Raizada or otherwise known as ASR, Managing Director and CEO of AR Designs.” to which ASR acknowledged the media with his typical stoic-professional look and it continues, “Beside him is his brother Mr. Akash Singh Raizada, finance and marketing head of AR Designs.” who gave his shy-pleasant smile and pushed his specs over the bridge of nose and continuing, “And on his right is his newly-married wife, Mrs. Payal Singh Raizada.” who gave a timid smile barely able to conceal her awkwardness. Moving along, “Beside her is Mrs. Anjali Raizada-Jha, ASR’s sister, Akash’s cousin sister and one of AR Designs board of director.” and Anjali folds her hands in namaste with a small smile towards the reporters and introducing the last person on the table, “Next to her is Mr. Manohar Raizada, father of Akash and maternal uncle of ASR and Mrs. Jha, also a board of director of AR Designs.” while the said elderly man smiled serenely in acknowledgement and finishing off the speech, “You all can ask your questions now one by one.” with smile and exhaling deeply and randomly points at the front row saying, “Yes you there Miss. In-blue-dress, can start with asking the first question.” to a young female journalist in blue dress and wearing a rimless spec.
The reporter jumped at the opportunity says: “Good evening, I am Lilly Singh from CNN and first off I want to say that the bridal collection was absolutely amazing though we expect nothing less from ASR. Now I’ll ask the obvious question which I am sure my fellow reports also want to ask ASR, where is Mrs. ASR…? We thought she was also supposed to here, right…?” firing her questions.
Arnav replies: “Well Mrs. ASR is getting changed and ready, you know how much time it takes a woman to get dressed. Don’t worry she will join us as soon as she is ready and I am sure when she is here all spotlights will be on her, so for now ask away others before that happens.” his tone pleasantly humorous.
This got litter of laughter from everyone though most were slightly surprised by usually stoic ASR making jokes but being pro-journalists, they got over it rather quickly. Then a young male reporter wearing white button-down paired with blue dress-trousers and slim jacket, spoke next: “Hello I am Rohan Sharma from News Today and my question is for ASR, we are all curious about your marriage since it was rather surprising and quite hush-hush event while your brother’s wedding was such a huge event. Why is that…? We would have expected ASR’s marriage to be even bigger affair.” looking every bit curious.
ASR for his part seemed amused or at least as much as he could ever when he replied: “How about you all hold to that thought and we would come on that later, I really don’t want to answer questions related to my marriage without my better-half present. So, ask me that again later when Mrs. ASR is here and I am sure till then you all can ask other thing to others.” suggesting politely.
The female journalist aww-ed over how sweet it was of ASR and moved on with it, so next a middle-aged slender female reporter in light-green dress, hair in sophisticate bun and high-heels asked: “Good evening I am Sonia Ray from Fashion in the City magazine and I want to ask ASR about today’s bridal collection, what was your inspiration…? We saw the whole collection which was absolutely beautiful starting from black than slowly blending to lighter shades before going to vibrant colours in an amazing transition. What had been your inspiration behind this collection…?” looking expectantly.
Arnav took a few moments before answering: “When I started working on this collection the primary inspiration was the celestial beauty of the night sky which is why the initial has black for night sky with white intricate design as stars. Past year a lot has changed in personal front which brought back a lightness in my life which I think started to reflect in the collection as well through the transition in colour and style and intricate designs. This collection is designed keeping in mind to make it easier for the bride to dance around on her wedding day which I guess most brides want, or at least mine definitely does.” chuckling lightly saying that before continuing, “So, the outfits were designed to be flowy and fluid to give lot of movement while being dazzling, sparkling and eye-catching. The starting line-up were for lighter occasion-wear pieces highlighting Parsi Gara embroidery of silk floss which was used against a backdrop of neutrals. I wanted it to be modern Indian bridal so we had off-shoulder blouses, cape sleeves, ruching, illusion sleeves and necklines and back along with sheer bodice of sparkling crystals. We worked with crystals by Swarovski to create lighter embellished pieces along with having the real gold and silver thread used in the intricate embroidery designs. The pieces that were actually lehenga but designed to give look of princess-ball gowns or A-line gown were traditional and modern and fun. The last segment which is named ‘Sindoor’ presenting the vision of bride and groom with brighter hues of reds, pinks and sunset oranges traditionally worn by brides to the pheras. The last segment of the collection was an ode to the modern bride — one who isn't weighed down by the opinions of others with bold colours and styles, all different and unique on their own.” explaining the collection.
Another female reporter in mid-twenties wearing designer pink pastel-pink and silver saree, raised her hand before speaking: “Hi I am Poonam Mehra from Vogue Fashion India magazine and my question to ASR was about your inspiration and concept for the bridal wear of your bride and Mrs. Akash Raizada’s since you designed hers too. Both Raizada brides bridal wear were of two completely different styles and unique look, why…? Couldn’t they have more similar looks which would have more complimenting…?” questioned primly.
Being the ever posh in his reply ASR says: “Firstly the inspiration had been cliché as it might sound but it was royalty, I wanted it to have a royal bridal style and look overall. Secondly, the two Raizada brides are two very different persons and they both deserve unique looks which complimenting them, reflecting their personalities. Payal here was wearing a full-sleeved long choli with lehenga of raw silk which had a sublet glossiness and intricate designs that were elegant but not flashy or loud, just like her personality. Her jewelleries were more traditional kundan which were elegant in simplicity and everything is designed keeping her preferred style in mind. The outfits of Akash and Payal had subtleness of their calm personalities which I think showed be the colour or style or overall look of theirs. On the other hand, my wife and mine were more bold and fierce styles just like we both really are. She had bright vermillion red with a lot bling and flare for movement while her accessories were all gold and silver and crystals, it was all bold and flirty and fun just like she is while I designed mine to be like how I am, simplistic and bold.” finishes elaborating the concepts that went in all the designs.
A young female journalist in green dress questioned next: “Hello I am Esha Shah from Zoom Fashion Channel and my question for Mr. Akash Raizada, it is no hidden fact that you are one of the most eligible bachelors of the city and lot of influential family would have happily married off their daughter with you. In fact, your mother wanted that if social circle rumours are true but you married a middle-class family girl, why…? And where there any sort of objections from your family…?” lightly tapping the pen in her hand on the notepad in her lap.
Akash replied with efficiency of long-term dealing with media: “I am flattered to know that I was one of the ‘most eligible bachelors in the city’ as you put it though I thought that title was Bhai’s only.” chuckled light heartedly causing a littering of laughter through the crowd of reporters and continues, “True my mother had dreams of my getting married in more influential family but then I saw Payal and fell for her the moment I saw her, so as they say the heart wants what it wants. And honestly there wasn’t too much of family objections since Bhai supported my relationship with Payal, so yeah that’s that.” added with a smile.
Another hand went up and a young male journalist in early thirties dressed smartly in black formals, spoke: “Hello I am Arun Grover from BBC News and my question is for Mrs. Payal Raizada, you are from a typical middle-class family and now you are married to one of the richest family of the county. So, can you tell us how it is like for you to be Raizada bahu…?” the question had been of curiosity and to demean.
Payal was bit startled at having a question direct to her and barely resisted the urge of squirming in her seat, replied awkwardly: “Eh it’s… it’s different and nothing like I ever expected happening to me. I mean like you just said I come from a very ordinary family and I never thought that I’ll be marrying in such a high-class family. These things don’t really happen in real life but my life surely has turned into a fairy-tale of sorts and yeah its different, still getting used to everything especially all this attention.” feeling totally out of her comfort zone which she tried to hide as much as possible like the PR people told her to.
Then another pretty female reporter in black dress raised her hand before speaking: “Hey I am Sneha Sinha from magazine Harper’s Bazaar and my question is also for Mrs. Payal Raizada, rumours are that you are cousin sister of Mrs. ASR, is that true…? And what do you both feel about getting married in same family…?” asked primly.
Payal fidgeted with her fingers under the table answering: “Yes she is my cousin sister and it… it is nice and kind of unexpected, never thought we’ll marry the same family though growing up we did make jokes about it.” smiling awkwardly in the end.
Another smart-looking male journalist in dark-blue formals raised his hand before he questioned briskly: “Good evening I am Navin Paul from Times Today magazine and my question is for Mrs. Raizada-Jha, we all know the close relationship that you and ASR share and you always wanted ASR to get married. Now finally it has happened, how do you feel about it…? How is your relationship with your brother’s wife…?” waiting patiently.
Anjali though had a few choices of words to say regarding that but she couldn’t, at least not without creating bad PR and so smiling pleasantly gave her practiced short reply: “It was unexpected but I can see how in-love and happy my brother is which I guess the fact that matters most. So, I am happy for him… for them and I can’t hope or want for anything more than that.” being all diplomatic.
Next to question was a pretty female reporter in designer pastel-yellow saree: “Hi I am Nia Sharma from Magazine Q and my question is for Mr. Ryan Raichoudhary, it is said that you and ASR have been friends for years, how do you feel about your sister marrying him…?” asks primly.
Ryan easily replied: “Like I said before I couldn’t be happier, Arnie is my best friend and I know him… I know how caring and devoted he is. I know my Titli is always going to be happy, he’ll make sure of it.” confident in his believe.
Another female reporter in brown dress introduced herself: “Hey I am Naina Rao from AT News; my question is for both Mr. Mukherjee and Mr. Manohar Raizada. It is said that you have been like a father figure in Ms. Raichoudhary’s life after that tragic accident, how do you feel about her marrying ASR…? Is he someone you have expected for her…? And we all know you had been like father to ASR, Mr. Raizada which ASR himself had said in lot of interviews before, so now that now he is married… do you think she is perfect bride for him…? How do you feel about your own son’s choice who has definitely been different what your wife had in mind; did you have similar expectations…?” asked observing both the elderly men.
Rishi and Manohar shared a look amongst themselves from opposite ends of the table before Rishi went to answer first: “Titli… eh Khushi is no less than my daughter and it has always been like that, so for me no one is eligible for her which I think all fathers feel but Arnav has proven himself to be deserving. He makes her so happy and treat her right, so I am happy… ‘ASR’ might not have been what I had in mind for my Titli but ‘Arnav’ is everything I wanted for her.” smiled at Arnav with fatherly affection.
Manohar says: “I never differentiated between Arnav, Akash and Anjali, they are all my children and I want them to be happy in their lives. Anjali had been happily married; we all knew Akash would eventually marry someone most likely of our choice but it was Arnav Bitwa we were most concerned with, that he will always remain alone. But things turned out for the better, Akash Bitwa married out of Payal Bitya out of his choice and not obligation. Also, Arnav Bitwa himself married for love and by choice instead of being pressured by family which was what we all had thought would have happened sooner or later. So overall, all my children are happy and in-love with their spouses which is all that I care about and matters to me.” smiling serenely.
Another random reporter from the crowd asked out loud: “ASR when is Mrs. ASR coming…?” which made other reporters nod in agreement.
Arnav started saying: “She is--” but stops mid-sentence looking at something ahead and then said, “Well she is here.” with slight smile and everyone followed the line of his gaze to see themselves.
Khushi looked like a bridal Barbie doll in a red-gold banarasi full-sleeve boat-neckline choli, white-gold banarasi lehenga paired with red-gold banarasi dupatta draped like a saree, long hair tied in bun with gajra and white-gold veil with red-gold border rested atop her head. She wore heavy kundan jewellery of gold and diamonds and her hands were adored with churda bangles, golden kangan of pearl kalira and pearl-gold hath-panjas and gold stiletto-heels. She had natural-shimmer makeup highlighting her eyes, a charming smile on her blush-red lips and the small red bindi between her brows perfectly. Piya was beside as both of them made their way towards the stage where Arnav is now standing and extended a hand for his bride to take, as he helped her climb the short three steps.
Khushi's Outfit and Look |
Piya smiled at them before backing away to stand on the side-lines and Arnav guided Khushi towards their seats, pulling her chair out then helped her settle down like a perfect gentleman before sitting down himself. He says on the mic: “Ladies and gentlemen let me introduce you all to my lovely wife, my better-half, the only one who had successfully made an honest man out of me, Mrs. Khushi Arnav Singh Raizada. And when I say better-half, I do mean that… she brings out the absolute best out of me.” eyeing her with warmly.
Khushi smiles back at him affectionately before looking ahead: “Good evening everyone and I apologize for being late but let me tell you as gorgeous my outfits for the evening are, it has taken a cavalry of stylists to help me put them on and off. Can’t really complain much since I feel absolutely beautiful in these outfits even though it took me ages to get ready.” cheerfully says making everyone laugh a little along with her.
Then from earlier the CNN reporter raises her hand and briskly says: “Hi I am Lilly Singh and can I say, Mrs. ASR you are very beautiful, congratulations both of you. Now my question is for Mr. and Mrs. ASR, I think everyone here has been wanting to know this when did you get married and why so hush-hush about it considering your siblings’ wedding was such a huge affair…?” asked the much-awaited questions.
Arnav was the one to reply: “Thank you and it was unexpected for us as well, under unforeseen circumstances Khushi and I eloped to get hitched.” which garnered the reaction of stunned silence like he might as well have dropped bomb on everyone with his statement.
Everyone was gaping with their mouth open and Lilly Singh prompted somewhat still in shock: “El--elope… You eloped to get married…?” hardly believing that she is asking this to ruthless-handsome-devil-fashion-tycoon also known as ASR.
Seeming unconcerned and unfrazzled ASR confirms: “Yes no one was informed because we eloped to get married, only Aman and Ryan were present there. I know you all are finding this absurd all things considered but yeah that’s what happened.” clearly amused by the journalists’ reactions.
Another random journalist asks: “But why…? Why did you feel like you had to elope ASR…?” hardly able to comprehend where this was all going towards.
ASR shrugged casually as he answered calmly and casual like he was discussing the weather: “The events leading up to that decision was due to several factors which are strictly private matters that won’t be answered. But let me clarify two important things, one that I love her very much and hardly could have waited months to marry her with all the pomp and glam like Akash-Payal’s wedding had. I sure as hell would have run out of patience and just eloped with Khushi anyways to marry her as soon as possible. Secondly, this wasn’t because we thought that our families would have objection towards me marrying Khushi. On contrary, our families would have been eccentric and readily accepted our relationship but like I said, somethings happened because of which we couldn’t wait anymore.” already see the most obvious conclusion of reason most reporters were drawing up for juicy gossip, so snubbing that before it went too far, “And no Mishti isn’t pregnant if that’s what you all are thinking as the reason for our sudden urgency to marry, please we both are more responsible than making that sort of mistakes. Plus, both of us want to enjoy being married couple for a year or two at least before thinking about baby or things like that in the mix. Like I said before those reasons are something which we are not willing to share with the media or the public as it is private.” firm sternness clearly audible in his tone.
The Fashion in the City reporter questioned: “Correct me if I am not wrong but weren’t you the one who crashed the Lucknow Sheesh Mahal fashion show and the footage was leaked in media…?” thinking just how juicy this whole thing is getting.
Khushi replies calmly: “Yes I was the one who crashed Sheesh Mahal fashion show in Lucknow but that had been completely accidental and had led to considerable amount of misunderstanding between us.” unable to resist smiling at the end.
The journalist probed further asking: “How…? How did you two got married to each other especially eloping considering everyone knows that Lucknow incident had ended in disaster of epic proportion…?” feeling that there had to be an interesting story there.
The couple a smile and look which seemed to spoke volumes as if they were sharing a private joke before Khushi answered: “Oh it had been one epic worst ending, I had to leave Lucknow due to all the harassment as the aftermath of that video leaking to media had led to. It was truly hate-at-first-sight between us in Lucknow and after everything that happened there. Every time our paths crossed, we fought tooth-n-nail and wishing… hoping to never see each other ever again, only to somehow ending up crossing paths again somehow. It was totally Pride and Prejudice Elizabeth-Mr. Darcy situation going on between us and I am pretty sure we have done some utterly stupid things, especially me. My weird daydreams and the vast amount jelabies that I fried along with consumed in stress, like you wouldn’t believe.” giggling at herself.
Another female reporter says: “And ASR engaged in such childish confrontations with you…?” hard to believe that a man like ASR would engage in such juvenile activities.
This time it was Arnav thoughtfully answering: “Apart from anything else, mujhe usse lardhne mein maza aane lag gaya tha kyun ki jitni baar main uski aankho mein dekhta tha mujhe sachai dekhti thi, jo maine phele dekhi nahi thi. Ya shayad mere dil ko pata tha ki ek wahi hai jo ASR ke samane itni honest ho sakti hai. Darti toh yeh kisi se thi hi nahi, yeh har mord pe mujhse takra rahi thi… iss paar main ishq ke tha, uss paar woh ishq ke thi aur koi nau hume bula rahi thi.” glancing towards his wife adoringly. (Apart from anything else, I was having too much fun fighting with her because every time I looked in her eyes, I could see true honesty that I had never seen before. Or maybe in hearts of hearts I knew that she was the only one who could stand up against ASR being so honest. She wasn’t afraid of anyone, colliding with me at every turn… I was this side of love, she was that on that side of love and it like a boat calling us out.)
Almost all had difficulty believing that they were seeing mechanical ASR getting almost poetic but then again it was happening in front of their eyes now. Another BB News reporter asked: “Then how did you both get over your differences…? Like didn’t you realize that she is your best friend’s sister ASR…? And Mrs. ASR didn’t you know that he is your brother’s best friend…? Or did knowing that resolved the issues between you…?” making guess.
Shrugging his shoulders Arnav says: “Jo chahhte hai zaroori nahi hai ki hume vasa kuch mile because I was not someone jo relationships mein believe karta tha. Dosti aur pyaar do alag alag khubsurat rishte hai aur pyaar toh mujhe abhi hua hi nahi tha. Par phir pyaar mein bhi toh log pagalo wali harkat kar jaate hai bina kuch soche, bina kuch samjhe.” like that clarified reasons of his actions. (Not necessary that we get what we want because I was not someone who believed in relationships. Friendship and love are two very different beautiful relationships and I haven’t fallen in love then. Then again people do all sorts of crazy things in love also without thinking properly.)
Khushi replied from her side: “We didn’t know that, in fact the connection we had due to Ryan Dada was something we discover the night we got married, believe it or not. Though I don’t know how much knowing that would have helped or maybe it would have, we would probably not have said some of the hurtful words we said to each other. Anyways, it had been the time we helped Akash Devarji confess his feeling to Payal Jiji that we started working out the issues between us and got closer to each other. Now that I think about it that was such a typical Pride-and-Prejudice thing going on between us, it is hilarious.” laughed lightly musing.
Another reporter asked: “How do you feel about that Mrs. Raizada…? If you look back, did you ever think that you would have married the man because of whom you had to move from one city to another…? How is it like being from Ms. Raichoudhary to Mrs. ASR…?” briskly firing her questions.
Smiling sweetly, she replied: “It is very different to be Mrs. Raizada… being ASR’s wife is such an interesting experience and I can tell you that Arnav is the best husband, like you won’t believe. Honestly, I never thought that I would marry the Laad Governor who made my life so difficult and most of the time I want to hit him on his head with something blunt and hard. But as I got to know him, I realized that behind that tough exterior of his which he shows everyone, are so many layers beneath it. And that realization that there is more to him and from there getting to know him had been a journey… in fact I am still unfolding the layers of what actually makes Arnav Singh Raizada who is really is.” side glanced at her husband sitting beside her with affection.
Arnav smiled back at her before turning speaking: “Ladies and gentlemen that is all for now in this press conference, we have a reception party to attend and guests are waiting for us. Official statements would be given by the PR of AR Designs and RC Industries. This conference is over now, thank you so much for coming and your time, we are looking forward to see it publish and broadcast.” ending the press conference swiftly.
Saying that Arnav got up and then proceeded to help Khushi out of her seat as well while the others on the table also started to get up and down from the dice. Immediately security had surrounded them which photographers clicked photos as they made their way back to the reception with Aman and Piya also following them. As they left it was only the media personals left now who were conversing among themselves about the interesting press conference. They surely hadn’t expected a lot of things and it was definitely going to make sensational story of high-society columns without any doubt along with trying to get more statement from other if they could.
.....
FIFTY MINUTES LATER
Since it had taken quite some time to wrap up the press conference and by than it was dinner time, so as soon as the star couples of the evening joined the party, everyone was seated and dinner being served before mingling with guests could happen. Family and guests were made sit according to the sitting arrangement plan; dinner was pleasant affair littered with conversations while eating delicious hors d'oeuvres, salad, soups and main courses that were being served. Soon the plates of main course were taken and desert or coffee as per preference were started to be served which led to everyone getting up to mingle around while jazz music played in the background during all this. Some of the guests were even getting on the dance floor and couples could be seen dancing, smiling and talking to each other. The elder Raizada ladies were introducing Gupta ladies to their ladies’ club circle while elder Mukherjee couple were engaged in conversation with some guests of their own and Mamaji was talking to some business associates.
NK was flirting in typical NK-fashion though he had eyes on one lady whom he hadn’t found the courage to approach yet all evening. Anjali smilingly wrapping her arms around her husband mingles or for the lack of better word, showing-off her perfect husband who kept smiling his slimy-sugary smile being overly mild-mannered. Lavanya was engaged in conversations with some celebrity guests, Ryan was talking to some of client of his while Piya checking up with the PR. Akash with Payal and Arnav with Khushi were making circle, introducing and mingling with all guests present in the reception party. Maya now changed into a designer black ruffle-chiffon saree which she paired with sleeveless black blouse with sweetheart-neckline and black-beading, simple make-up, matching black-gem earrings. Her long hair pulled in half-updo and curly, black heels looking pretty as she answers to some reporter questions about the fashion show, her experience of walking on the ramp and in general about Mrs. ASR since she is the best friend. Beside her Aman is also present who is also being asked a few questions due to his status as ASR’s best friend slash Personal Assistant, so the pair were smiling and laughing as they handled the media circus.
Maya's Saree and Look along with Aman |
Khushi could hardly contain her gleeful excitement upon meeting her favourite celebrities throughout the reception party and she had no idea about them being invited in the first place. She has already met celebs like Shahid and Meera Kapoor, Deepika Padukone and Ranveer Singh, Alia Bhatt, Sonam Kapoor and Anand Ahuja, Kareena Kapoor and Saif Ali Khan, Katrina Kaif, Anushka Sharma and Virat Kohli, Bipasha Basu and Karan Singh Grover along with many others. Not only Bollywood stars but some of popular Bengali actors like Koel Malik, Rahul Bose, Prosenjit Chatterjee, Payel Sarkar were invited. Even quite a lot of television stars were present like Erica Fernandes, Karan Patel, Divyanka Tripathi and Vivek Dahiya, Ekta Kapoor with her brother Tushar, Ronit Roy with his wife, Anita Hassanandani, Arjun Bijlani, Drishti Dhami with her husband and few more popular stars. Even the Bachchan family was in attendance at the reception party which had her nearly fainting having met the legendary Amitabh Bachchan and former Miss. World, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and asked for autographs, made to have photos clicked with them. She nearly lost her mind when Arnav introduced her to Gauri Khan and Shah Rukh Khan, swooning and fangirling unabashedly much to everyone’s amusement. But she could care less about what everyone, instead happily making sure to procure autographs alongside getting photos with them. She positively squealed loudly when introduced to Salman Khan, also one of the guests invited and Arnav had kept all the celebrities invited-list a secret, relished watching his love’s happy-excited reactions upon meeting each and everyone.
On the other hand, Payal was also being introduced to all the A-list celebrities she had till now only seen on television screen and wealthy business colleagues of her husband, felt shy and out of place. She was definitely as much of star-stuck as Khushi but her reactions weren’t as loud or out-there given her nature, so she was awkwardly shy in her interactions which though made her likeable to everyone but the spotlight quickly shifted to the more expressive elder Raizada bride. When she was introduced by her mother-in-law to her ladies’ club friends with politely and brushed off to the side rather quickly for Khushi who was been given significantly more importance. Payal wasn’t one to be jealous over her sibling type but somehow, she felt that exactly that especially the way everyone was only interested to know about Mrs. ASR only. She most definitely hated that her mother-in-law who wouldn’t even talk to her without any sarcastic remark and here couldn’t just stop praising Khushi or calling her ‘humari Bahuriya’ affectionately. She hated the easy acceptance that Khushi is getting and being side-lined because of her, again she is being shoved back due to her sister’s achievement who is outshining her. Despite the bitter feelings rising in her slowly, she made sure to keep them out of her expression and words, to try snub the unreasonable jealousy because she was being petty which for now being sound minded seem to realize it.
Akash was naïvely unaware of his wife’s inner turmoil over everything at present and happily showed-off his wife around the party, interacting and enjoying the celebrations. While Garima and Buaji weren’t too happy about everything though they were careful to not show or speak any of their ill thoughts. Garima felt dissatisfied seeing her Payaliyaa being side-lined due to Khushi like always but there wasn’t anything she could do about like she always done till now by shoving her sister’s daughter out of the way. Buaji felt anger bubbling inside her seeing all the attention that orphan girl is getting just because she married the better Raizada when her beloved clearly deserved it more but she couldn’t use her usual bullying tactics now, so being wise enough kept her mouth shut. Both the Gupta ladies were especially unhappy with Manorama’s positive acceptance towards Khushi while Payal wasn’t favoured by her still. Whereas Manorama was aware of all the hidden displeasure of Gupta ladies and clearly has been taking her sublet fun over tormenting them discreetly throughout the event. Devyani Raizada knew that her dramaqueen of daughter-in-law being up to something but since she wasn’t creating any scene, so left it alone and pleasantly continued to mingle with the guests, gossiping and smiling over the praises of finding such wonderful brides for her grandsons.
Mingling with so many guests was starting to make Anjali tired on her feet and keeping up the façade of caring husband, Shyam guided her to sit down for a bit towards one of the empty tables then went to get something to drink for her. Anjali was looking around carelessly when someone sat on the vacant chair opposite to hers and turned to find none other than her other partner in crime these days: “Hi Lavanya, how is the party going for you…?” asked slightly concerned.
Lavanya sipped champagne before placing the glass on the table and replied: “Nothing too bad though I lost the count of people asking me about broken engagement with ASR and how do I feel about Mrs. ASR. Unfortunately, I can’t play the helpless victim here since everyone is so goddamn taken by Chamkeli and couldn’t stop gushing over how much she makes ASR smile or happy or being the perfect match for him.” leaning back in her seat seeming agitated beneath the calm mask of hers.
Anjali patted her hand on the table reassuringly: “Don’t worry Lavanya, soon everyone would know that she isn’t right for Chotte and you will be in the place beside him like you are supposed to be. But for now, don’t lose your temper, it won’t do us any favours if Chotte gets any more crossed or suspicious of us than he already is.” says sagely pulling her hand back.
Just than Shyam came handed the orange juice glass to his wife and sat down beside her, said: “Bilkul sahi kaha aapne Rani Sahiba, we need to have our patience if we want to expose Khushiji. It won’t be easy because she isn’t as innocent as she seems, she has cunningly manipulated Arnav and turned him against us already. So, we need to be very careful and cautious to really expose her in front of Arnav and the whole family. Anyway, better not to have such discussions here because who knows what would be heard by unwanted ears.” words dripping with sugary sliminess like usual as he swiftly changed the topic of conversation.
Anjali and Lavanya were smart enough to know wise words and easily allowed the conversation be diverted towards other direction without any fuss. The three of them sat on the table chatting amiably, sipping their drinks and eyes casually roaming around before they got up to go and mingle with the guests actively. They weren’t happy with the celebrations but they had a façade to keep up, a role to play and they wanted to be on their best behaviour for now, so as to not get into anymore of ASR’s bad list than they already are… maybe hoping to earn some good grace out of this evening.
...
Piya picked a glass of wine from passing waiter’s tray and took a sip, momentarily standing alone in the corner for some quite for few minutes at least while her eyes roamed around aimlessly. She was bought out of her musing by a male voice asking: “Hello Piyaji, what are you doing standing here alone like this…?” which turned out to be cheerfully smiling NK.
She blinked few times, not really expecting him to approach her but soon regained her footing: “Please call me Piya and I am just taking a few minutes break from constantly interacting with everyone. Especially the media people, they are so tiresome but it is in my job description to deal with them unfortunately.” replied easily with a tried smile than asked, “But what are you doing here…? Shouldn’t you be talking to guests and flirting with crowd of pretty ladies…?” raising a brow at him and daintily sipped her wine.
NK rubbed the back of his neck as he answered: “Saw you standing alone so thought to come and say hello. And anyways, I was doing just some harmless flirting which means nothing to anyone.” seeming flustered than bashfully started, “Anyways, I wanted to ask you--” but never got to finish his sentence due to interruption of ringing phone.
Piya gave him an apologetic look and handed her wine glass to him as she opened her purse and pulled her phone out. She smiled widely seeing the caller-id, answering the call: “Hello Rudra Dada, how are you…?” asked cheerfully in Bengali than listened to the reply from other side before saying, “I am fine Dada, not that I mind but why are you calling me…?” then hmm-ed to hear the person on other side before proceeding to say, “Kukoo is having too much fun meeting and fangirling over all the celebrities present in the party, so she hasn’t probably noticed her phone. Hold on, I’ll get her on the phone now.” as she was speaking in Bengali meant NK didn’t understand any of the conversation. She brought the phone down from her ear said in Hindi, “This call for Khushi, so I need to give it to her. See you later NK, bye.” excusing herself giving him a mild smile than pressed the phone back to her ears and talking. She went off in search of her to her friend whom she had last seen in conversation beside Arnav with celebrities Akshay Kumar and Twinkle Khanna.
NK stood holding the wine glass barely able to give a smile in return much less have gotten any word out and stared morosely the way she hurried off. He drowned the remainder of wine in the glass in his hand in one gulp while cursing himself for not being able to chat up the one girl he is actually interested. And to make the matter worse, she saw him flirting meaninglessly with endless number of other girls which made him pout harder wonder what she must be thinking of him now, certainly nothing good that is for sure. He signed placing the empty glass on passing waiter’s tray and picking up another flute of champagne as he tried to think of way to ask Piya out which is easier said than done. He sipped his drink looking around and his eyes went to Manorama who was calling him, so he puts a cheerful smile on his face and makes his way to his aunt while setting his problem aside in favour to socialize.
Lost in his musing NK has missed to see the two pair of eyes that were watching him since the moment he approached Piya and the ones spying on him were none other than Ryan and Aman. The two friends shared an amused look with each other as Aman comments: “NK is totally at loss about how to proceed with Piya, oh this is so fun.” chuckling lightly sipping his sparkling wine.
Ryan nods in agreement and sips his drink: “Yep and I don’t think Piya is going to make it any easier for him either because for some reason she seems pretty wary of him. Though she isn’t too interested in NK and I don’t see her being either considering he is too carefree for her to be interested in anyway.” says contemplatively.
Aman agrees with the statement as he too came to that conclusion from his interaction with Piya, said: “Yeah, she definitely wouldn’t give NK any time of her day and he certainly made not bit good impression on her with his constant flirting to be taken seriously too. Anyways, I think he’ll come asking us for advice sooner rather than later.” enjoying NK’s plight little too much.
Ryan hmm-ed: “But not before making some more fool out of himself in front of her.” than sipped his drink and turned towards his friend, “How is it going for you with Maya…? Any progress that we should know of…?” asked rising a brow at him amusedly.
Aman knew better than to deny instead replied: “Work in progress, for now Maya and I are good friends. I want to get to know her a little more as friend, let her know me better before I ask her for a date or something.” seeming all calm and casual.
Ryan smiled mildly saying: “Hmm not bad though just so you know, Maya is very much interested in you. Just don’t take too long or else she would think that you are not interested in her which we don’t want now, do we…?” giving him a sly look sipping his drink.
Huffing Aman was about to reply but was interrupted by sudden entry of Maya who stood in front of them asking: “Ryan Dada! Aman! What are you both doing here in the corner like this…? I have been looking for you both for ages!” with her hands in her hip looking moodily at them, “Dada, Kukoo is been looking for you… so go to her.” then turning to the other, “Aman I want to dance now and you promised to dance with me. Also, there is something else I want you to do for me, come with me now and I’ll tell you all about it.” with that she took the glass out his hand placed it on the nearest table than proceeded to grab his hand and dragging him along to the dance floor.
Aman helplessly followed her though glanced over his shoulder towards his best friend who was giving him smug amused look in return which made him scowl back. Ryan shook his head in amusement though smiling than went off to find his sister who was apparently looking for him, feeling pretty good at the moment. His eyes went to Anjali sitting at one table with her husband and that wretched model ex of his sister’s husband, Lavanya which made him glare at them which none of the three could see obviously. Then his eyes went to the Gupta ladies too who were though smiling but clearly weren’t as happy as they tried to portray, something must be done soon about these dark clouds before these created some unnecessary trouble for his sister. For now, he shoved these thoughts aside and went look around for his sister and socialize with the party guests, it was his only sister’s reception party and he would enjoy it, being happy for his sister and best friend properly.
...
Khushi was buzzing with excitement standing beside her husband who had just introduced her to Sara Ali Khan and Varun Dhawan. So, she is gushing over them: “I am such a huge fan! Oh my god, this is the best party ever of my whole life! I just love your movies Varun, you have such a cute smile.” to which Varun gave his signature dimple smile making her fangirling ever more, “And you are so beautiful Sara… likes so pretty, you are so pretty and cute and so talented, I love your acting, so natural and all. Though I’ll be honest that I didn’t like your debut movie ‘Kedarnath’ than much but you and Sushantji were brilliant. In fact, you both were the only good think in the movie except the last fifteen minutes or so when the actual hazard happens. Honestly, there was so much much more potential of being better for the storyline than being so predictable as it was.” says with bright smile.
Looking pretty in a designer black lehenga that had tiny flower print paired with sleeveless simple sweetheart-neckline blouse and net black dupatta, Sara returned the smile sweetly: “Thank you and you are also very beautiful Khushi, cute too and I can see why ASR is head over heels for you.” said giving ASR a sly look before turning her attention to the bride continues, “But between you and me, I have to agree that ‘Kedarnath’ did turn out to be too predictable, the storyline could have been better but well it was good and working with Sushant was fun.” lightly flipped her hair over her shoulder.
Khushi eagerly nodded in agreement: “Ah ha Sushant was an amazing actor; it would have been so much fun if he had been here. I was so shocked and devastated over the news of his suicide, still can’t believe that he isn’t there anymore.” said sadly and looking chest-fallen.
Sara seems sympathetically to share the same opinion and Varun adds: “Yes though I haven’t had the chance of working with Sushant but I interacted with him at few award functions and after-parties over the years, he was very nice person. He was one of the few actors who made it to being A-list Bollywood actor on their own coming from a very ordinary background. It was honestly a shock for everyone in the industry hearing the news of Sushant’s suicide, especially since he was so successful and had such a bright career ahead.” sipped his wine and looking very dashing in his black tuxedo with white button-down and slim black tie.
Arnav pulled his wife closer to his side with his arm around her waist as he says: “I met Sushant a few times too, AR Designs had costume designed for few of his movies and then at some parties too. He was a fun person and so talented, it was truly tragic that he passed away so suddenly and like that too.” squeezing his wife’s waist tad for a moment, “Anyways, how were the costumes for the upcoming movies of you both…?” asked changing the topic to more light conversations.
With that they were talking about fashion and costume that were done by AR Designs when the conversation was interrupted by Piya who came hold phone in her hand, said: “Sorry to interrupt, Kukoo Rudra Dada wants to talk to you.” gesturing to the phone in her hand.
Khushi brightens up hearing that and Arnav says: “Seems like something that needs bit of our attention, excuse us please and you guys enjoy.” excusing them with a polite smile.
Waving it off Varun replies charmingly: “Oh that’s fine ASR, we’ll catch up again later and Khushi, it was lovely meeting the woman finally managed to capture the dragon’s heart.” winking playfully than gave the couple a casual side-hug.
Sara too adds: “Yeah it was lovely meeting you Khushi, I look forward to seeing you in future as well.” giving a hug and air-kissing her cheek with smile pulled back, “Nice to see you too ASR and it was a pleasure to know that you can smile too.” than give him a quick side-hug as well.
Khushi cheerfully says: “It was absolute pleasure of mine to meet you guys and I am so glad you guys could attend today’s event. Again, lovely meeting you guys and I hope to see you guys again too.” smiling bright as ever.
Arnav in typical ASR style: “It was nice catching up with you both, will see you soon and maybe look forward to you guys sometime working in collaboration with AR Designs again.” being all polite and posh.
With that Khushi and Arnav along with Piya excused themselves and went to a quiet corner of the party, away from all the noise and guests. Piya handed over her phone to Khushi saying: “Rudra Dada is on line.” with an easy smile.
Khushi puts the phone on her ear and speaks softly: “Hello Rudra Dada.” leaning closer to her husband.
From the other end of the phone came reply: “Hello Titli, how is my pretty doll…? I am so sorry that I couldn’t attend your reception party, I just couldn’t get a leave unfortunately. But I have been watching the whole event since morning, everything about it from preps to red carpet to the actual fashion show, and you looked absolutely breath-taking. Then the press conference too, you were amazing and I must say you husband is one charming man for sure when he wants to be.” in deep familiar voice speaking in Bengali.
She felt her eyes welling up and spoke in Bengali with trembling voice: “Kya Dada, you are making me cry now and that will absolutely ruin my makeup. It’s okay I forgive you for not being able to attend and I loved the gift you sent me, also Moni called me late afternoon today. Had a long chat with her which definitely helped calm my nerves before the show. Anyways, I am wearing the gold anklets you sent as gift now which makes me feel that I have a piece of you and Moni with me.” sniffles a little before she continues, “And Dada you won’t believe how many celebrities I met this evening, it’s like the whole Bollywood is here and I made to have at least one picture with them. I am just so fangirling over here all evening, it is absolutely fun and I am sure if you had been here than you would be trying to make me behave, so maybe it is good that you are not here.” said with a watery giggle.
On the other side he laughs along with her: “Yeah and I am sure you would still be doing what you want despite what I say or not. You are so spoilt Titli and we all find it endearing, that is how much you have us all wrapped around your little fingers since always.” says in agreement.
She giggles some more before saying sadly: “I miss you Dada… I miss you and Moni-maa so much. I want to see you guys; it’s been so long since I last saw you both like two-three years ago.” lower-lip trembling as she got emotional.
Understanding that Rudra quickly says: “Oi don’t cry… don’t cry my pretty doll, don’t cry Titli. I am so sorry that I couldn’t get time off to see you in last few years but know that I always had my eyes on you. I always knew what was happening in your life and anyways, you are coming to Kolkata with that husband of yours soon enough, so don’t cry now my sweet baby-sister.” comforting her like only big brothers can which made her smile a little sniffing lightly and he smiled in return, “Now please pass the phone to your dear husband who I know is beside you, I want to talk to him.” said lightly.
Khushi replied: “Okay.” than then easily the phone to her husband saying, “Dada wants to talk to you.” passed it to him with smile.
Arnav took the phone from her and put it on his ear: “Hello…” said trying not sound too formal but not too casual either.
From the other side Rudra spoke: “Hello Arnav, this is Rudraksh and you can call me Dada like Titli and Ryan.” tone warm and deep.
Arnav hmm-ed: “Yes Dada.” with a smile.
Rudra says: “Well being the brother I am suppose to give you the shovel talk about how if you ever hurt my sister than I am going to break all your bones but I know I don’t need to. I know all that media says about ASR and I have heard all about Arnie from Ryan, I know just how loyal to fault you are to people you love. So, I am sure my doll of a baby sister is going to be happy with you because how much you love her, how much you adore her and I can see that from the way you look at her. Thank you for making her so happy but don’t think that this gets out of lecture for eloping because do you even know how many plans you ruined with that. The plans for Titli’s wedding have been in production since ages and you ruined them all, so when we meet, I am giving you an earful for that.” adds quite seriously, “Anyways, when are you guys coming to Kolkata…?” asked pleasantly.
Arnav huffed though lips pressed in a repressed smile, answered: “Eh there this friend of Mishti… Khushi’s who is getting married in few days, after that is over well take the flight to Kolkata the first available weekend. Anyways, it was nice talking to you but we have a party to return now… I’ll just give the phone back to Mishti, bye Dada.” finishing off the conversation from his side than handed the phone back to his wife.
Khushi eagerly took and puts it on her ears saying: “Haan Dada…” having reverted back to her smiling happy self again.
Rudra from the other side: “Okay than take care of yourself and your dear husband, I’ll let you guys join the party again. Have fun Titli and don’t do something that I won’t do.” told her cheerfully.
She whines a bit: “Dada! Okay fine bye, take care of yourself and Moni, will call you soon again and I’ll see you guys soon.” says in upbeat cheerfulness than with that ends the call than returns the phone back to Piya, “Thanks Piku.” with a smile.
Piya had taken her phone back with a smile, replies: “Not a problem, anyways I wanted you to know that PR has handed over the statements to the journalists. So, expect this week or so the news to be featuring this event and everything which means our share price are going to be rising.” shared the piece of information.
Khushi nods thoughtfully: “Hmmm that’s good, make sure it all stays positive and good, we don’t want any fake unsavory rumours to go around.” reminding off-handedly.
Arnav wraps an arm around his wife’s waist absentmindedly says: “PR of AR Design will keep in touch to co-ordinate with RC.” pulling her closer to his side.
Piya merely nods in acknowledgment: “That’s fine I am sure between the PR teams of both our companies, handling press and media is going to be piece of cake.” said smiling slightly.
Khushi was about to say something which was interrupted by announcement grabbing everyone’s attention towards the stage where the band was playing. One the stage stood broadly smiling Maya with mic in one stand, speaking: “Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention please.” looking around and satisfied that she has the attention continues, “Well good evening everyone, I hope you all are having a good time. So first of all, a round of applause for the star couples and wishing them all best for their shared futures ahead.” while all the guests clapped and hooted for the couples merrily. Once the applause died down after a minute or so, she went on, “Since this is a wedding reception and this means the star couples have to be on the dance floor, so I request Arnav Jiju and Akashji please lead your brides to the dance floor because it is mandatory for the couples to dance.” as she looked at the said couples with mischievous smile.
And all the guests clapped and cheered in agreement, Akash and Payal seemed shy and red faced, looking around awkwardly while Arnav smiled amusedly and Khushi gave her best friend a look. She says: “You are dead for doing this Candy, you just wait I would make you pay for this when it is your turn or better yet, when you least expect it.” threatening her best friend half playful and half-serious.
Maya didn’t seem too bothered and shrugged her shoulder carelessly: “Yeah well we’ll see about that later but now get on the dance floor with your hottie-husband Kukoo.” said unabashedly.
The guests cheered loudly while the family had various reactions like senior Raizada and Mukherjee’s were smiling at the youngsters’ antics while Anjali, Shyam and Lavanya fumed. The Gupta ladies also didn’t seem too happy but made sure have their fake smiles on their faces as NK and Ryan were cheered hooting loudly. The newly wed couples tried to waggle their way out of it which didn’t seem to be working at all with all the hooting and cheering of encouragement just increased, not letting them get away easily.
Payal stood bashfully beside her husband feeling awkward at the sudden attention while Akash raised his hands up in surrender and said: “Oh please leave me out of this Riyaji, ask Bhai and Khushi Bhabhi. I am sure Bhai would agree since he is such a show-off.” ribbed playfully as he threw his brother under the bus without any regret to get away himself.
Just for that comment Arnav retorting: “I heard that Akash and I resent what you are implying.” mock-glaring at his brother who shrugged apologetically but didn't seem at all sorry.
Ryan loudly called out: “Come on Titli, come on Arnie no need to get all shy on us now and get on the dance floor now.” ribbing them good naturedly.
Khushi groaned: “Not you too Dada and definitely not now!” almost stomping her feet petulantly and pouts.
Not bothered Ryan shrugged his shoulder instead and replied: “It’s just a dance, stop being such a coward Titli and just get on the dance floor already with your husband there.” knowing it would rile his sister up.
As expected Khushi narrowed her eyes at her brother: “Oh you shouldn’t have said that Dada, I am so going to own that bloody dance floor now just wait and watch.” told her brother challengingly and crabbed her husband’s wrist and dragged him to the dance floor.
Khushi quickly had a few quite words with the band and made her arrangement while Arnav stood behind her like the obedient husband that he is all the while eyes lit with amusement as the guests watched with interest. Few minutes later Mr. and Mrs. ASR were on the dance floor, the spotlight on them and as assumed perfect pose for waltz, the beginning of soft cords of guitar started and Khushi lightly started humming as the banded played what she had requested them. Khushi sang looking deeply in her husband’s eyes trying to convey her feeling with a smile as they waltz on the dance floor with perfect coordination.
“Gujari hu jab se, main tere dar se
Hasne lagi hu khool k main rehbar
Ho dard se rista tera juda toh
Ab muskurate hai mere manjar”
Arnav’s lips curved in a light smile in reciprocation as he mouthed the words trying to convey his emotion, swelling holding the love of his life in his arms as they swirled along the music.
“Koi lamha mera na ho tere bina
Har saans pe naam tera
Kyunki tum hi ho, ab tum hi ho
Zindagi ab tum hi ho”
Khushi looked deeply in his eyes singing her next line and they both were mouthing the words…
“Ho chain bhi mera dard bhi
Meri aashiqi ab tum hi ho”
The band played a amazing flute piece and everyone cheered in encouragement while Akash and Payal were pushed on the dance floor too. The shy couple assumed waltz stance and gladded on the floor with Akash leading while the other pair was too lost in each other to notice anything else. Arnav mouthed the next lines as he twirled Khushi before pulling her back in his arms…
“Hum tere bin ab rah nahi sakte
Tere bina kya wajood mera”
Khushi wrapped her arms around his neck and sang her lines with pulling him close to her…
“Tujhse jooda agar ho jayege to
Khud se he ho jayege jooda”
Arnav rested his forehead on hers and lip singed the next line looking deep in her eyes…
“Bus tu he tu mujhe yaad hai”
Khushi twisted in his arms as she sang her next lines with the precision of talented singer that she is with all her emotions, following her husband’s lead on the dance floor as they waltz skilfully. She moved as he led her, gladding and leaning on him trusting as he lifted her effortlessly…
“Dil ki namaje jaake pahuchi
Falak se age to jaake paya
Tujhko mere rehnuma
Baho se teri aage duniya nahi hai
Meri rakh le yahi tu mere rehnuma
Kyunki tum hi ho, ab tum hi ho
Zindagi ab tum hi ho”
Arnav couldn’t help staring down at his wife with wonder and love in his gaze as he mouthed, he words with heartfelt emotions which she brought out of him. He swirled her is his arms, reeled her in close to him and dipped her low, leaning closer to her as he hovered over her…
“Tere liye hi jiya main
Khud ko jo yun de diya hai
Teri wafa ne mujhko sambhala
Saare ghamo ko dil se nikala
Tere saath mera hai naseeb juda
Tujhe paake adhura na raha”
Khushi brought her one palm to rest on his cheek as she looked deeply in his eyes and sang her lines in perfect pitch, hitting the high chords…
“Aaaa… Tum hi ho… mere rehnuma…”
Keeping up with her, Arnav kissed the inside of her palm before holding her hand in his and sang his lines which were in perfect harmony with hers. They swirled and twirled under the spotlight, all dazzling as they moved on the dance floor…
“Kyunki tum hi ho, ab tum hi ho
Zindagi ab tum hi ho
Chain bhi mera dard bhi
Meri aashiqi, tum hi ho”
Looking deeply in each other’s eyes as they mouthed the lasted verses and the music faded in softly, ending the perfect moment but still resonating which had everyone spellbound. After a moment of silence, everyone broke into applause and the both the couples broke apart from each other as Akash and Payal being bashful like always. Arnav smirked pulling Khushi close against his side and Khushi held her chin up proclaiming loudly: “Huh take that Ryan Dada!” beaming brightly oozing smugness.
Everyone laughed at that and Ryan held his hand up in surrender humorously before cheering for his sister and best friend loudly. The band started playing jazz again as both the newly-wed couples stepped down from the dance floor while few of other people went on the dance floor to dance while conversations resumed as the couples were congratulated by guests they passed by. Reached their families who mostly greeted them happily as Nani, Manorama and Manohar praised with smiles, Buaji and Garima gushed over Akash and Payal. Gayatri and Rishi complimented Arnav and Khushi smiles before moving on the mingle with other guests happily. Aman, Maya, Ryan and Piya gathered around Arnav and Khushi as three girls gushed squealing while Arnav’s two best friend started pulling his leg as the three of them joked. NK went over to bother Akash and complimented in his tooti-footi Hindi which made the guests within hearing range laugh though his eyes wandered to a laughing Piya but he kept his distance thinking that he had embarrassed himself enough for one evening. In all this good-natured joyful moment Anjali, Shyam and Lavanya were the only ones who were internally fuming but managed to keep fake smiles on their faces as they joined conversations. The trio easily breezed over Arnav and Khushi by keeping it short and moved on to Akash and Payal, talking to them with smiles which were at least somewhat genuine.
The rest of the night passed with conversations, laughter, music and dancing while mingling with guests though Nani, Manorama, Manohar, and Gupta’s little after midnight. Since being pregnant Anjali had the excuse of leaving the reception after midnight and Shyam being the dutiful husband, held his wife’s hand and led her to the car. Gayatri and Rishi left half past midnight though Maya didn’t leave with her parents, opting to stay late since Ryan would be taking her and Piya home who would be staying at her place tonight. Aman stuck close to Maya, they both exchanged friendly flirting while Piya steered clear of NK, clearly nervous about the NRI and mingled with the Raichoudhary Corp. business associates with efficiency. Lavanya had stayed as long as she had too before leaving the party at the first acceptable opportunity, fuming over Khushi stealing the man of her dream, seeing her dancing in ASR arms. The party went on till real late though after half past one with most of the guests gone Arnav, Khushi, Akash and Payal too left the reception with NK and Aman left behind to wrap up while Ryan also left taking Maya and Piya home. All in all, the Fashion Show-Reception was a success, mostly everyone was happy and those who burned with jealousy knew better than to say or do anything nasty. Arnav couldn’t wait to see what the media writes and says about them but for now he has to love his wife up and he happily got busy with that.

[NOTE: Hello lovelies, finally the update is here, sorry it got really delayed… like months delayed but it was due to various reason and mostly my husband kept taking away the laptop from me all the time which didn’t provide me the chance to write. Then I had my vaccinations and got sick for like three days, then my husband had his vaccinations and was sick for a day or so. Also I had write's block in the middle of the chapter, like I knew what I wanted but couldn't pen it down properly... but finally, finally after everything, I finished it. Anyways, how was it… good, bad or worse…? Did I miss anything...? So for now Fashion Show and Reception party is over, time to move on with things and it will be Preeto's wedding and more drama there next. Also, I'll start working on MTB next chapter... like I seriously need to get on with that and rethink it because I forgot what I had planned in the next chapter... well will get started with that. In the meantime, I'll probably repost PTKK chapters too and try not to get too distracted with other fandom fictions and ideas.
Also the song of the chapter is from 'Tum hi ho/Rehnuma' by Armaan and Shreya from T-series Mix Tapes Season 02. Thank you for reading, don't forget to leave comments and likes, will try not to vanish for lengthy period of time but sometimes real life gets in between. Try to finish up next update fast and update soon, until than take care and see you guys soon.
